The Whidbey Swordplay Association is a Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) organization dedicated to studying and practicing the martial traditions of medieval and Renaissance Europe through rigorous training and historical research. Based on Whidbey Island, the association focuses on weapons such as the arming sword, longsword, sword and buckler, and spear, drawing directly from surviving fight books and manuscripts like I.33, Fiore dei Liberi, and Paurenfeyndt. WSA combines disciplined martial practice with an appreciation for historical context, fostering a welcoming community where students can develop skill, confidence, and a deeper understanding of Europe’s martial heritage.
The Whidbey Swordplay Association operates on donations in order to fund equipment, weapons, and other materials. We recommend $10 per practice or $20 per month. However, we strongly value your presence even if you are not in a financial position to donate.
We look forward to seeing you!
